About Us.

Pemba Blue Ltd. is a Tanzanian-Swiss joint venture company established in Zanzibar in 2025, and approved by the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA).

We produce and distribute a diverse range of natural ingredients and products made with Pemba Island seaweed for industry and trade.

Our mission is to make accessible the power of seaweed to everyone everywhere because of the benefits for health, well-being, soil and the environment.

R&D Innovation Lab

Located in Unguja, the main island of Zanzibar, our R & D Innovation Lab brings together international and local scientists and experts to research, develop and test formulations and products.

Pemba Manufacturing Plant

Located on Pemba Island, our manufacturing plant processes sustainably harvested quality seaweed varieties into 100% natural ingredients and products under strict Quality Assurance protocols.

Patented know-how.

We have extensive experience across the natural product value chain, including biomass sourcing,, extraction and purification.

Our Intellectual Property (IP) includes 2 patents, one related to "Purification of Algal Extracts and Their Applications", a proprietary formulation methodology, analytical chemistry expertise and capacity for nutraceutical development and plant phenotyping.

Our Philosophy.

We believe that collaboration is indispensable for excellence across the value chain.

We work with local and international partners, including the Zanzibar Ministry of Blue Economy, the Zanzibar Seaweed Company (ZASCO), our joint venture partner, the Zanzibar Fisheries & Marine Resource Research Institute (ZAFIRI), the Milele Zanzibar Foundation (MZF) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

We also collaborate with reputed industry partners who test and certify our formulations and products.

Ethical sourcing & sustainability

Sustainability is not just a slogan for us. Our products come from nature and the caring hands of women farmers. Preserving the pristine coastal environment of Pemba and paying fair prices to farmers is integral to our business.

Our joint venture partner, the Zanzibar Seaweed Company (ZASCO) is responsible for setting the seaweed price in line with guidance from the Zanzibar Government aimed at improving livelihoods of people in Pemba.

Our cooperation partner, the Milele Zanzibar Foundation (MZF), helps us to be a positive force for empowerment in the local community by channeling 10% of our profits to community development.
